Nissan Car Key Replacement
Nissan key fob batteries are easy to replace. But first you'll need to know if your car uses an intelligent fob, push to start button or regular remote/non-transponder key.
You'll require your keycode, which you must keep in a safe place and should be the same as that of your vehicle.
Transponder Keys
Commonly found in newer vehicles transponder keys usually come with an RFID microchip within the key which transmits a unique code to the car whenever it is put into the ignition. It is designed to stop theft by making sure that only the right key can be used to start the car. If you'd like to learn more about the technology's working and how it works, call your local locksmith or dealership for a demonstration.
When the transponder is placed into the ignition, the key sends a message to the chip in the engine control unit (ECU) of the vehicle. The ECU will then check to see whether or not the code in the key is in line with its digital serial number. If it does it, the ECU is then able to disengage the immobilizer and permits the engine to begin. If the code doesn't matched to the code, then the ECU will block the signal and prevent the engine from starting.
The KeyLab are more expensive than traditional metal keys but give you extra security. However car thieves have evolved in the past and discovered ways around this anti-theft measure and so the additional cost isn't enough to stop them completely.
Many people ask if they can copy transponder keys at home - the answer is yes but it's best to leave it to a professional auto locksmith. The process can also vary according to the make and model of your vehicle.
Mechanical Keys
Many older Nissan cars came with mechanical keys. These keys were made of metal and did not come with remote functions, and were able to unlock the doors and ignition cylinders of the car. A locksmith can change the inside components of a damaged key or damaged case to make a replacement that works just like the original. A reputable and certified auto locksmith can also cut you a key for a lower price than the dealership.
There are several different types of mechanical key and each one has its unique method of replacement. Linear switches feature a linear actuation chart for instance. As you press the key down it will move until it reaches the stopper. The switch will send the signal to start the car when the key is put into the ignition.
Intelligent keys are equipped with chips that communicate with the computer system of the vehicle. This means that when you lose your keys, it will have to be replaced with a brand new one that is programmed to work with the particular vehicle. This requires a higher level of technology for keys that is only available through an automotive locksmith that is specialized, and will cost more than a standard replacement key would at the dealership.

Key Fobs
Since the end of the 1990s, key fobs became a standard in most cars. You can unlock, lock or arm your car's alarm at the push of a button. Many people believe that the systems are secure enough that only someone who has access to your key code can drive off with your car. However, this isn't always the case. In a couple of easy steps, people who aren't terribly careful could take advantage of these systems.
If your Nissan's key fob isn't working as it should, you may require replacing the battery. The rechargeable CR2025 as well as CR2032 batteries that are used in the majority of key fobs last for about two years. If you're not sure of how to replace the battery, refer to the owner's manual to get advice.
If your key fob won't turn on due to a larger problem, it may need to be replaced or programmed. These problems can be more difficult to resolve than the simple replacement of batteries, and they might require the assistance of a professional auto locksmith. Certain locksmiths specialize in replacing and repairing smart keys, and are able to offer you an OEM smart key at less than the dealership. They can also visit your house, preventing you from having to leave your vehicle at a garage. They are available all day, seven days a week.
Remotes
There are Nissan models that come with a remote keyless entry system, which uses a key fob to unlock your door and/or start the engine. It is recommended that you have a spare in case yours is lost.
A functioning replacement key fob will save you the cost of an expensive tow to the dealer and the pricey replacement cost for your ignition keys. Fobs emit a sound that communicates with the vehicle's onboard computer to complete a series of actions, including locking or unlocking the doors or trunk release, or sounding the alarm that sounds the panic alarm.
Browse our selection of Nissan replacement key fobs to find the right one to your specific model and year. You can also buy an already-programmed fob to make it an even lower cost. Be sure to choose the right style, as several look similar and may cause problems if they are not compatible. Additionally, online sellers selling a pre-programmed fob typically require evidence of ownership or registration to prove legitimacy. Websites that don't request this information could be a scam.
